Tirith Rhaw lies deep in the heart of Free Peoples territory in the Ettenmoors, yet it remains an oft-contested keep. Despite the efforts of the Free Peoples army and the brave Morningthaw Wardens, forces from Angmar led by the tyrannical Orc Barashish frequently take the fortress for a short time.

Among the contested keeps in the Ettenmoors is the fortress of Lugazag. To and fro the struggle wages, with Angmar first retreating, then pushing forward to reclaim the ancient fortress.

In the ever-turbulent battle to secure the Ettenmoors, fortresses fall and change hands with every day. When the armies of the Iron Crown control the island keep of Tol Ascarnen, Apsduf takes the role of quartermaster, gathering and maintaining the provisions and supplies for the army of Angmar and preparing the fortress for defence against the attacks of the Free Peoples.

The Ettenmoors is the focus of a battle between the Free Peoples of Eriador and the armies of the Iron Crown. At sundry times, possession of the many Rhudaurian ruins in the Ettenmoors changes hands in the stalemated struggle taking place in the wilderness. When Angmar’s army holds the fortress of Tirith Rhaw, the great troll Nûrsufum stations himself outside the walls, watching in silence.

The lumber-camp in the Grimwood is one of the most contested encampments in the Ettenmoors. When the armies of Angmar control it, it is Gundzor who commands the forces there.
