The mornings have become cold and misty, it takes longer for the sun to free the world from the night’s grasp and winter is drawing closer. The people are staying inside near the warmth of the fire, where they tell stories of beasts and heroes.

You are a lonely traveller on your way through the Shire. So far you have met few people and a lot of scarecrows. The fields of the farms around you are empty, the storehouses – you figure – must be full with supplies for the winter season.

When walking past one field of an especially impressing farm a voice calls out for you:

“Hey there, traveller! Would you mind giving me a minute of your time?”

As you turn towards the voice you see a Hobbit farmer approaching you, sorrow clearly displayed on his face.

“Bad luck has become my companion!” he cries out, “My son was supposed to transport the best pieces of this year’s harvest to the party tree for a big celebration. But on his way there he stopped for a pint or two and obviously drank more than that.

“He passed out at the table and while he sat there sleeping, the cart he had parked on top of a hill got loose and rumbled down into the valley spilling the precious food everywhere.” The farmer lets out a heavy sigh before he straightens up and looks at you expectantly.

“Would you do me the favour and look for the lost food?” Before you can reply to his request he hands you a piece of paper. “This is a list of the things that are lost so that you know when you have found everything.”

When seeing your sceptical gaze he adds: “I can also give you some hints where to look, which I collected from snippets of conversation I heard from passers-by.” He hands you another sheet of paper with some useful information written on it:

You read the information carefully, trying to figure out the meaning behind the words. When you are finally done and ready for departure the farmer adds one last piece of important information:

“The celebration will take place on December 11th, 2009 so please make sure you gather all of the food by midnight on December, 7th 2009. Of course your efforts won't go unrewarded, the following items shall be yours if you succeed to fulfil this task:

• 1st prize: T-Shirt + digital game key for LOTRO Triple Pack Special Edition + forum title “Master Sleuth” and avatar, plus in-game item: Cloak of the Dark Halls


• 2nd to 5th prize: digital game key for Triple Pack Standard Edition and forum title “Master Sleuth”, plus in-game item: Cloak of the Dark Halls


• 6th to 10th prize: forum title “Master Sleuth”, plus in-game item: Cloak of the Dark Halls
